Discus launched gliders are sweeping the glider hobby. These planes are so
easy to fly and require nothing in terms of support equipment. No winches,
hi-starts or other launching equipment. You don't have to be big or strong
to launch them because it is all technique. A weak launcher can get 70 feet
easy. A strong launcer can break 150 feet. And, on that launch you can get
a great flight as you hunt for lift.

This is a more relaxed throw using a 2 channel Mountain Models DL50 DLG. This plane can also be simply side arm launched.

This is a more competition oriented throwing technique. You will see a running start, a strong throw and impressive height achieved.

Many of the models I list below have videos of them being launched and
flown. MSome are kits, some are ARF, and one is an RTF. Typically the ones
over $200 are ARF composite construction planes. More competition
oriented planes typically range over $400.

Hi-Start Launch?
Some people put a tow hook on the bottom and use very light hi-starts to
launch them as well. Then you can get them up 200-300 feet and hunt for
lift from there. At 200+ feet you can get quite a flight even with no lift.

This is not advertised for HLG/DLGs but I expect you could add more line and

Hand Launched/Discus Launched gliders are a very fast growing part of soaring, so consider these as part of your fleet and perhaps your entry into RC Soaring. And when you are ready, enter one of our Eastern Soaring League Hand Launched contests.
We have Expert and Sportsman classes, but if you are very new to this you can register as Novice. You will get lots of help and you will make many new friends.
